We lack the squad depth to cope with injuries to several key players at the same time. So it looks like the international break has arrived at the right time to allow some of them to recover.
Riera & Benayoun both picked up hamstring injuries against Birmingham. Agger & Johnson both pulled out of their international squads so they can get treatment on minor injuries. Torres is undergoing 3 weeks of treatment on a groin injury to hopefully avoid any surgery.
Aside from the all that, hopefully the international break will also allow the lads to put behind them the run of poor form they've been going through.

I wouldnt call Aggers back injury "minor". It keeps recurring so is serious and could be signs of an early end to a promising career.
There is also Gerrard who is nursing a groin injury. I wish Benitez would just get Gerrard and Torres into surgery now to resolve it once and for all cos groin injuries dont go away. Better to deal with them now rather than let them recur throughout the season.
@Michelle - ah sure, Agger will come good.
Didn't hear about Gerrard being withdrawn, although I haven't been keeping up a lot of news in recent weeks (just far too busy with work & study) so I apologise for any omissions.
Surgery apparently causes scar tissue which will lead to problems down the line. I guess that kind of figures considering Gerrard had surgery last year. Whatever the case though we should have had enough without Torres to beat Birmingham, Kuyt's loss of form is really affecting us.
I hope all our injury worries sort themselves out and we put an unbeaten run together to shut the press and all doubters up.

@Brendan - seems like everything is affecting us lately... a truly dire run of form we've been on :-(
@Jevon - it's not just an unbeaten run we need, it's more of a winning streak coupled with a run of poor form, from Chelski, Arsenal etc...
Besides it's still relatively earlier in the season...
This is Ridiculous, I hate to say I seen this coming but I did and for a long time now. Last season Gerrard & Torres kept getting injured especially on International duty and playing in no brainer games that they didn't need to participate in. Even then I was saying to myself what happens if these two guys pick up injuries again and around the same time but in addition a couple of other key players, the thought of it happening sent shivers down my spine and now my worst nightmare has happened. Stevie & Fernando aren't fully fit and are a long way off being fit it seems and in addition we have Riera, Benayoun, Johnson, Agger with a not fully fit Aquilani, recovering Skrtel and a young but talented Kelly injured. It is just a disaster. To add to this Carragher is having a terrible season and when you look beyond him we have the terrible Voronin, the inexperienced Ngog & Insua, Aurelio who has had his own set backs and players like Degen, Dosenna & Babel who rarely get a look in. The only plus is Lucas is starting to show real potential and Kuyt has managed to stay injury free. I can't help thinking that Rafa should have seen this coming, especially when buying a player such as Aquilani that he knew would be out for close to half the season.
@Dan - to be fair to Rafa, he definitely knew about Aquilani, and there's no way he could have known that loads of other players would've been injured at the same time (which is the real kicker).
We've had some terrible luck injury wise this season but this only goes to show our lack of quality in the squad....Voronin is not good enough to be in the starting eleven and to think we don't have a better quality striker than him is very worrying!
yes horrible horrible squad depth... thats all there is to it... that's the reason Chelsea and Mancs outperform us so often... Benitez, in my opinion, is a world class managers. He has his faults, yes, but thats the same with any manager apart from Guus Hiddink i think haha
@this is anfield - sad thing about Voronin is that he actually has some talent but only ever shows it in the Bundesliga and our pre-season games...
@suley - for the most part I like Rafa, definitely a world class manager.
