Potential tricky fixture for Gerrards return

It's not like we're badly in need of Gerrard returning to action any time soon. But LFC have confirmed that Gerrard is back in training, and that he should be fit for a return this Sunday against Newcastle.

Bear in mind that Newcastle are fighting for their Premiership survival, so this could turn out to be a tricky fixture despite their recent poor form. Rather than taking it for granted that we'll easily beat them, I hope the lads take the game seriously to ensure that we do.

Hobbs loan move has been made permanent

Breaking into the first team on a consistent basis was always going to be difficult for Jack Hobbs considering the quality of competition for places. But he did get to make several appearances for LFCs first team, and also played a part in the famed Youth Cup success in 2006.

He has just had a pretty decent season on loan with Leicester City, helping them get promoted to the Championship. Having earned himself a permanent transfer to Leicester City, it should allow him to develop his potential, but not necessarily to the kind of standard required by LFC.

Rumours of Tevez coming to Liverpool

Seems like quite a few newspapers are claiming that Tevez is likely a £22m transfer target for us this summer. Unlike the last time we tried to prise a player (Heinze) away from Old Traffford, this time there's nothing ManUtd can do about it, as he's only on loan with them.

Our preferred partnership of Torres & Gerrard, is something which I doubt most Liverpool fans would want to mess with, which would make Tevez an overpriced backup striker. If we're going to be spending that kind of money (and we should) on an attacker, then I hope Rafa chooses to go with a dedicated winger in the mould of Ribery or Silva.

F**king gutted, but then f**king relieved

Despite the result, this had to be one of the most exciting games of the season. It was a game in which we completely dominated Arsenal for almost the entire match, with some beautiful attacking football.

We gifted Arsenal all of their goals, which makes the end result of 4-4 all the harder to take, but at least we didn't lose. Also the strength of character and desire in the squad, was evidenced by their willingness to come from behind 3 times and still try to chase the winner.

To say our title hopes have taken a big hit would be an understatement, but there's still potential for us winning the Premier League. Hopefully the players will keep their heads up high and fight until the end, so as to be ready to capitalise on any slip ups made by ManUre. We can still do this.

Conspiracy theories abound

Good old Arsene Wenger, you gotta love that guy sometimes, and this time he probably has poor old Fergie spitting feathers thanks to this interview. I can just imagine the scene with Fergie watching an interview with Arsene when Arsene's face breaks into a big grin after it's suggested that Arsenal might prefer to lose to Liverpool tonight. Fergie must be livid.

In response to Fergie's ludicrous tirade about Rafa being supposedly disrespectful last week, Sam Wallace wrote an excellent article about how Fergie has one rule for himself and another for everyone else, not to mention he has Rafa firmly on his hitlist now. So I'd like to extend a big thank you to Arsene Wenger for winding Fergie up some more ;-)

Agger could do with an Alonso style pledge

Looks like we won't be having a repeat of last summers transfer fiasco, thanks to Rafa saying that there's no way he'll consider letting Alonso leave. After going through an extended run of poor form, Alonso has really turned it around with his undoubted quality shining through this season, to the extent that we wouldn't be in the title race without him.

Sadly though, there continues to be persistent rumours concerning a potential exit of Agger. Last October Rafa was happy to say he wanted to keep the lad, but since then there has been absolutely no progress made on a contract extension. Rumours abound of some sort of falling out, time will tell if we end up losing the genuine world class talent of Agger.

20th Anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster

It's that time of year again, where cries of justice for the 96 will no doubt go ignored, but the Justice Campaign very much lives on, check out this site for details :- http://www.contrast.org/hillsborough/home.shtm

Heartbreaking scoreline against Chelski

Prior to the game, I thought the odds of another Istanbul style comeback were far too slim to risk losing any of our big players. Winning number 19 was my preference above all else. With this in mind, I was uncharacteristically content with the prospect of us not winning a match.

But that all changed during the game, with Liverpool completely dominating the first half. Dreams of an Istanbul style comeback seemed plausible thanks to Aurelio's incredibly clever free kick, and also Alonso's deserved penalty.

The second half was something of a rollercoaster ride which frayed the nerves no end. Going down 3-2 was gut wrenching, which was followed by Mascherano & Torres being taken off. Yet somehow we managed another couple of goals to keep the dream alive before fat Frank made it 4-4.

After such an incredible spectacle of a game, it hurts being knocked out of Europe. But the advantages of that, is that we no longer have any potential distractions from pursuing number 19 this season.

Agger & Torres score stunners against Rovers

Even if Blackburn Rovers didn't present us with much of a challenge, winning 4-0 was the perfect response after losing to Chelsea. The match almost looked like a training session but it was blessed with 2 stunning goals.

Torres opened the scoring with a breathtaking goal which must surely be a strong candidate for goal of the season. No words can really do justice to it, which is why I'll include this youtube link to the goal instead.

It was great to see Agger back for Liverpool and he topped it off with a stereotypical (for him) stunner from outside the box, and sure enough here's a youtube link for that also. Not too sure about his fitness though as he appeared to get a bit of a cramp towards the end.

We're still in the title race with a very hefty goal difference compared to ManUre who have maintained their points advantage over us.

2 games without Gerrard seems reasonable

LFC have come out with a statement, saying Gerrard is in the squad for tomorrows match (despite medical scans confirming he suffered a small strain in his adductor muscle). Granted this doesn't mean he'll actually play and Rafa says they'll make a late decision on this matter.

We've got a huge game with Arsenal next weekend, and having Gerrard ready for that seems far more important, so I hope LFC come to a similar conclusion and give the lad the rest he needs, rather than risk further injury.

With our relative strength in depth, we should be able to easily cope without Gerrard and beat Blackburn Rovers tomorrow. Also the next leg against Chelsea seems an unnecessary risk considering the consequences.

Chelski deserved to destroy Liverpool

The first half was exciting stuff with high octane action from both sides. The football on display was truly beautiful and Torres early goal couldn't have been scripted any better. It really had the makings of becoming another classic game, which it was, but it was for Chelsea, and not LFC.

Set piece zonal defending was badly exposed as Liverpools players failed to track their players, which resulted in them scoring 2 of their 3 goals. Despite that though, the harsh reality is that Chelsea completely played us off the park in the second half and they deserved to win.

Forget Chelsea, forget the Champions League, we need to focus our limited resources on maintaining the fitness of key players and focus all our efforts on the Premier League now.

Get ready for an exciting match tonight

Considering the fact that we've had to play Chelsea every season in the Champions League since Rafa took over, I imagine many people are a little bored with the prospect of playing them again.

But this time it's very different. You see Chelsea now have a coach who has a more attack minded philosophy than his predecessors. Couple that with the kind of form which Liverpool are in at the moment and it all adds up to a match which should be a more open and exciting fair to behold.

Woodwork awarded man of the match

Our propensity to beat the top teams and screw up against the smaller teams this season looked like repeating itself against Fulham. The first half was exciting stuff with plenty of attacking football and we were unlucky hitting the wordwork 4 times. But the second half was pretty boring stuff with Fulham predictably going all out to defend.

There was quite a few excellent performers, notably Gerrard, Torres, Dossena, and Babel. But Insua was the real stand out performer and he looks destined to make the left back slot his own for many years to come.

Just as I'm sure everyone was getting ready to write off our title challenge, up popped Benayoun to secure victory in the dying minutes. Sadly ManUre got lucky and beat Aston Villa today, which really hampers our chances of catching them. It's still a pretty exciting title run-in, but my money is on the Champions League being our best chance of silverware next month.
