@suley - if the banks do take over the club, they would continue to keep the club afloat until a buyer comes along.... which shouldn't take too long for a club of LFCs stature ;-) So hopefully there would only be a small blip of perceived instability during that brief period.

@Scott D - I doubt the owners will ever do us any favours and don't much care whether they're liked ro not, it's probably all about maximising profits for them.

At the very least he could sign Owen for free and reduce his wages. He could also sell Pennant, Vorinon, Dossena and Babel and recoup about 12-15 million pounds. If you add that money to what we got back for Keane then surely we can sign a top notch player.

My main point was that the owners are doing us no favours what so ever and should sell the club now at a time when the team is in great shape, therefore commanding a decent price.

If they stay here for an extended period then its quite possible that we end up like Newcastle, just like suley has just suggested. It amazes me why Hicks is so stubborn to sell when he is up to his eyeballs in debt and all the fans hate both him and Gillet.

the thing that worries me the most is the fact that we seem so vulnerable at the moment... the team is in fantastic shape... but if we were to have some bad luck come our way and have a bad season next season... it may start a domino effect... whereby we would lose some revenue... which would put the owners past that line where they are not considered a going concern... the bank would take over the club... instability would rule... players would be sold... we may end up like newcastle... or leeds... all very scary indeed...

Rafa didn't try to sign Barry this summer, and so far as I can tell he didn't make an approach for Tevez either. I'd also love to see Tevez and Silva here but I guess Rafa has other ideas.

I think Rafa is probably right when he says we only need a couple more signings this summer.

I've no idea who they are, but I'm excited about who they might be, but will have to be patient to find out who they are.

Maybe in a couple of weeks after he has signed a couple of players we'll have a better idea as to what might happen next season.

Paul I am glad you bought this topic up coz its been frustrating me the last week or 2.

So far Rafa has signed no one as we watch Man City steal Barry, and more than likely Tevez. These are the two players (along with David Villa or David Silva) that I was just dying to see as new transfers.

The financial situation that LFC is in is making it extremely hard for Rafa to sign some decent players. Even Portsmouth and West Ham seem to be in better financial shape than Liverpool after finding new cashed up owners.

In a recent thread you and others were saying that you dont want to cash rich like Chelsea and Man City (http://www.myanfield.net/2009/05/probably-best-stadium-in-world.html)

I hate to break the bad news to you but those are the sorts of clubs that are going to win trophies in the coming years, like it or not that it a fact of the modern game.

Have a look at the piss poor signings Benitez has bought since the last summer transfer window.

Keane (we all know what happened to him)
Riera (decent, but not a world beater)
Dossena (not up to LFC standard)
Degen (who the F*** is he, never seen him play)
Ngog (might be decent in 2 or 3 years at best)

I dont think the team can take it to the next level without some really shit hot signings and we have had zero since Torres.

Sorry for the long thread, but its just shitting me reading all the news about Tom and Jerry's debt, and a lack of any decent transfers.
